Lyrics
Here you’ll find the lyrics to my songs – raw, unfiltered, and honest. Some of them are quiet prayers, others loud confessions. If a line hits you, it was probably meant for you. Thanks for listening.
I sat in the last row
Just to feel the sound
Voices rose like angels
But I kept my head down
They sang about mercy
And I knew the tune
But my sins wore boots
And came back too soon
The preacher was golden
His hands held the light
But I heard rats beneath the gospel
Scratching through the night
There’s a hole in the hymn
Where my soul used to fit
And the roof never shook
When I prayed in it
No thunder came
No tongues of flame
Just rats beneath the gospel
Chewing through my name
I stayed till the candles
Burned down to their knees
Thinking maybe the silence
Was trying to speak
But grace don’t knock
On a splintered door
And my shadow don’t stretch
On that floor no more
There’s a hole in the hymn
Where my soul used to fit
And the roof never shook
When I prayed in it
No thunder came
No tongues of flame
Just rats beneath the gospel
And a man with no name
There’s a hole in the hymn
Where my soul used to fit
And the roof never shook
When I prayed in it
No thunder came
No tongues of flame
Just rats beneath the gospel
And a man with no name

About
David Sven is a soul-rock singer-songwriter who began releasing music only recently, but has lived with music his whole life. As a child, he learned to play piano and guitar, and for decades he wrote songs just for himself — capturing moments, emotions, and memories in melodies only a few ever heard.
Now in his fifties, as a father of three and a husband, he writes and sings from a place of lived truth. He lives surrounded by nature and horses, in a peaceful home full of life, love, and echoes of silence. His inspiration comes from everyday beauty: love and longing, fatherhood and time, grief and resilience. His songs aren’t designed to impress — they’re meant to touch something raw and real.Sometimes it’s just his voice and an acoustic guitar. Sometimes it’s a slow-burning soul arrangement layered with Hammond organ and slide guitar. And sometimes, he blends in the tools of today — quietly, purposefully — to give shape to what words alone can’t carry. The result is music that sounds both timeless and current, imperfect and deeply human.Listeners have compared him to Joe Cocker and Bruce Springsteen — and once, to B.B. King. Not because of genre, but because of the feeling: the way a song can bleed and heal at the same time.David released his first full-length albums in 2025 — Built from Fire and Stone in the River — and continues to craft songs that feel like stories whispered by the firelight. Honest, emotional, and rooted in the soil of a real life.
